Thankful

Thankful
I have so much to be thankful for today!

I drank an entire cup of coffee this morning and only had to reheat it once
the sun is shinning
it is date night
my son is napping
there are many strawberries needing to be picked
the birds are chirping
the house was cleaned yesterday
friendships
God's mercies endure forever...

"Therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." Colossians 2:6

I understand

June 10, 2009

So I have been sewing a lot...If fact I have made four bags, two bibs, one pair of baby slippers, and now am embarking on a simple dress for myself. I think I am obsessed now that I have actually made something that looks half way decent and is seemingly usable. Not only that but I just received two garbage bags of material. So I have a lot of material to work with!

It is so strange to think about this because honestly as a kid growing up I did not take a liking to the sewing thing. My mom has always been a sewer ever since I can remember. She made us doll clothes, Barbie clothes (our Ken doll had five different pairs of parachute pants), hair bands and countless denim jumpers with oh so many buttons. I do remember sewing different little projects through the years, in fact I even took sewing in 4-H one year. My mom was the leader. I made a full sized quilt when I was eleven for my bed. I completed it in two days. I don't think I have really sewed since then. In my late teen years I found out that having my personal seamstress was actually quite nice. So again my mother took on the roll of making trendy dresses, stylish purses and the rest. If I needed a skrit taken in or didn't like the puffiness of a dress, whala, she would have it done when I needed it.

Sewing has always been a part of my life. My mom's enjoyment for sewing homemade goods for her family I didn't really appreciate until now. With my own family the simple enjoyment of making a bib for my son or a new dress is strangely satisfying. I am so thankful for her love of sewing and her family and am glad that I can now use the bits and pieces that she has taught me through the years.

I found the pattern for the little bag hereand for the larger brown bag here.

Caught

Caught
A few days ago I heard Chael wake from his nap. He was making his usual sounds that told me he had had enough crib time. As I opened the door I was shocked to find my baby son standing in his crib. I rush and grabbed my camera and captured this moment. I love the way he is looking like I caught him doing something he was not supposed to.

All these precious firsts are so much fun. In fact today I gave him a haircut. His first haircut! I can't believe how fast the time goes. Being a mom is great! (Today)

Thrifting
1. Coat for Chael. (It is a size five so in about four years this will fit him.) We will see if it lasts that long.
2. Thermos for coffee. (Our life group drinks a lot of coffee.)
3. A dress for a friend who is having a little girl in September. (So exciting!)
4. Vintage tea towel. (I am thinking a bag or an apron)
5. A old tea pot.
6. New pair of shorts for the summer. (soooo comfy)
7. Outdoor bamboo rug for the patio.
8. Serving tray or movable island. (May paint the trays a new color)
9. Plastic bag. (Very sturdy)
10. Books...wonderful books.
11. A wonderful day with two dear friends.

Thanks mom for watching the boy!

Pigeons

May 22, 2009

I am very happy to say that our wonderful neighbors (the wonderful is a recent development) tore down their pigeon coup! No longer will our backyard smell like poop. I really stink at loving my neighbors. I actually think that my attitude over the pigeon coup has stunk more than the coup itself. Mark 12:31 says "Love your neighbors as your self." This is so difficult especially when their actions effect me in a negative way. There were no exceptions to the verse. I am glad I got this picture of this pigeon to remind me of this truth. I took this the night before the coup came down.

I found this bag pattern
here. My plan is to make another bag similar to this but with a padded dividers so that I can carry around my camera without looking like I am carrying around a camera. This one on Etsy is very nice but not fitting into my budget. I hope I can figure out how to construct one that will work...

Stretching

I was inspired today by this post on the shutter sisters website to take a photo of myself with an arm outstretched. Chael was not as inspired as I was but I enjoy this shot of just the two of us.

Watching the Lilacs

Watching the Lilacs

I have always loved lilacs. I think they have been my favorite thing about spring since I was ten. This year is especially exciting because I am getting to watch my very own lilacs bloom. My nose is tingling to smell their sweet sent! My husband bought me four plants last year to plant in our new flower bed and I have been overjoyed to watch their pretty little flowers develop and change in these last few weeks. It truly is a dream come true to have a backyard where I can sit on my swing and watch the lilacs bloom.

I Heart Faces

I Heart Faces

The sweetest sound is the sound of a baby's laughter. Especially when it is your own baby! This photo of Chael was taken this weekend as he laughed at his grandad.
